Coventry Workers’ Comp Services ready to Expand e-Billing Capabilities Mandate on the Horizon for California
Franklin, TN – March 17, 2010 – Coventry Workers’ Comp Services (CWCS), a division of Coventry Health Care, Inc., has offered an electronic bill cycle solution throughout the industry-wide conversion to standardized EDI transactions. The solution, powered by Jopari Solutions, enables the exchange of electronic bills, attachments, electronic payments, status inquiries and remittance advices.
Given the announcement made by the California Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC), the waiting may soon be over for providers and payors alike. The DWC issued a notice of rulemaking last week outlining provisions that would require the adoption of standardized paper billing forms and electronic billing standards. Their goal is to reduce unnecessary paper from the system and assist providers to be paid more timely and accurately. The CWCS capabilities are not limited to e-Billing and attachments, but assist providers interested in receiving payments and remittance advices electronically as well. All of these combined, deliver cost and time savings for both payors and providers. Furthermore, payor expansion to accept e-Bills in new states is simple and requires no additional development.
“CWCS has had our solution in place for quite some time, and many payors are accepting bills in both states with e-Bill regulations and those without.” shared Francine Johnson, vice president product development, “We are pleased that the DWC is moving ahead with the mandate which will encourage all payors to accept e-Bills in California, which is a positive direction for both providers and payors.” The California mandate would require payors to accept electronic bills 18 months after adoption of the regulations, while electronic billing by providers will remain optional. Per the announcement, the proposed regulations have been forwarded to the Office of Administrative Law for publication in the California notice registry and can be found on the DWC Website at: http://www.dir.ca.gov/dwc/DWCPropRegs/Ebilling/EBilling_Regulations.htm.
